Aero-acoustics

The aim of the course is to provide students with sufficient basic knowledge to be able to understand and tackle aero-acoustics problems such as sound generation and propagation by and in turbulent flows, characteristics of the sound radiation by an aircraft turbo reactor jet. The physical interpretation of the underlying mechanisms and the standard models to predict the effects of convection and refraction linked to the propagation of acoustic waves in sheared non isothermal flows will be explored together with the noise generation by turbulent fluctuations.
