Computational Fluid Dynamic

The course will provide students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the numerical methods used for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in industrial codes (Fluent, Star CD...) and research codes. The following topics will be addressed:

  1. Discretization of partial differential equations:

    • Finite differences
    • Finite volumes
    • Intoduction to finite elements
    • Introduction to spectral methods

  2. Consistency, stability et convergence

  3. Solving linear systems of equations

  4. Solving unsteady problems

  5. Solving Navier Stokes equations

  6. Parallelization

  7. Reliability of CFD results

The course will be complemented by an extensive lab session on industrial code and students will use such codes (Fluent...) to compute representative turbulent flow.
