The pratice will be divided in two parts:
Program a simple turbulent model for a Couette Poiseuil flow
The aim of this first part is to program a simple turbulent model in a very simple case and to compare the results with the theoritical solution in laminar case and with experimental results for the turbulent case. As the case is rather simple, the effect of several parameters such as the number of grid point as well as the grid stretching near the wall will be investigated.
Modify a pseudo-spectral code to study 3D isotropic turbulence
The aim of this second part is to use a simple code to generate results of isotropic turbulence at medium Reynolds number and to compute the main statistics such as energy spectra. In a second step the code will be modified in order to implement a subgrid scale model adapted to spectral discretisation. Then the performance of the model will be investigated by comparing the LES results with the DNS ones.
